Why a refused image can be more valuable than 10 accepted ones

So an image of yours just got refused, again. In this post you'll find out why this can be a good thing and why it can help you getting more % of your images accepted in the future!

It happens every day: These unthankful Microstock sites keep refusing your images! How dare they? First of all I can tell you that it's nothing special to get some images rejected, it happens to everyone.
Here are some first aid sanctions:
  • First, calm down!
  • Secondly you'll have to ask yourself if you images fulfills some basics like sharpness etc.
  • Is there a "good" compositions (I know than one could argue about what is good or not for ages)
  • Is there an interesting angle
  • Evil Noise visible?
If your image does not lack one of these essentials, here's a way how to learn from rejected images:
  1. Calm down even more!
  2. Read exactly why your image was rejected, many sites give you quite detailed reasons why the don't wanted your image - yet.
  3. If it is possible to resubmit your image, be happy, only minor and mostly quick corrected setting have to be tweaked to add another image to your portfolio!
  4. If you aren't allowed to resubmit your image, ask yourself if you would make a huge print of this very image and hang it in your living room for the next year, so that visitors see it by force and so that you'll have to view it every day- is it still unfair that your image was refused?
You might now say that it is always a questions of perspective whether an image is good or not, if it should be running straight through to become worlds № 1 top selling Microstock image or if its just something that lies on your hard drive forever, without ever being noticed- and you are right.

But try to remember to give yourself a little routine, asking if the technical demands are fulfilled and if your image is "artistic" in a way. Be honest to yourself! If you think about these things in the future, learn from your "defeats" and to try it again you'll be experiencing an increased acceptance rate soon.

I really spend some time on choosing the right images to upload later, and if I'm not 100% sure that there might be somebody, somewhere who might just look for exactly this image, I sort it out, it's not worth the processing work!

Use the free feedback Microstock sites give you, it's the best comment you can get to optimize your images. These people are pro's, take them serious!
